No Credentials, but I'm a Libra so…

Libra season is here and you're just living in it. (Bailey Young/AQ)

Welcome to Libra season, the most aesthetic and magical time of the year.

For those who don't know or care about astrology: Libras are ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, love, fashion and all things pleasing to look at.

Coincidentally, these are also the subjects I've spent the most time developing opinions about.

Oct. 6 is my birthday, which means Libra season has officially reached its peak. Coincidence? I think not.

In honour of another year older, I’ve decided to share my completely unqualified opinions on Fall fashion, pop culture, friendship and beauty.

I may not have credentials, but I have taste and as a Libra, I consider that a form of expertise.

This is not astrology. This is journalism.

I have done extensive and thorough research on the mind and aesthetic of a Libra, meaning I looked at my Pinterest board and my credit card purchase history.

Speaking of aesthetics: we need to talk about the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

It's never really been about the clothes, it's about the fantasy.

The hair, the wings, the production, everything is built to make you feel like you've temporarily entered a world where everyone is six feet tall with perfect hair and heels.

Watching the show and immediately deciding which looks you’d wear in real life is whimsical, even though you're not walking into a grocery store in six-foot wings.

The show gives us permission to enjoy fashion at its most excessive state. And as a Libra, if something is beautiful, dramatic and completely unnecessary, it deserves our attention.

What You Wear Is Only Half the Story

There's something about fall that makes getting dressed feel like a personality test.

Who are you this season?

The leather jacket girl? The sweatsuit girl? Or the girl who's been waiting six months to wear her knee-high boots?

Personally, I think it depends on who you're going out with. Getting ready with your friends is its own ritual, someone holding up two tops like she's been appointed to the Supreme Court of Fashion.

Your friends are your first audience, the ones who see the outfit before Instagram does.

There's something about walking into a room with your friends when everyone’s dressed well. Suddenly you're not just going somewhere, you're arriving.

Maybe that's the Libra in me talking. Fashion’s real purpose is to be seen, yes. But also to have someone beside you.

The Icons of October

Every season has its icons, and fall has a very specific type, people who make a coffee run look editorial.

Tate McRae understands effortlessness, a little sexy, very intentional. Bella Hadid (also a Libra) could put on a leather jacket and make the rest of us question our wardrobes. Hailey Bieber has perfected the “I didn't try too hard” look. And Taylor Swift has convinced an entire generation that fall requires a cardigan, red lipstick and at least one emotionally significant walk.

Honourable mentions go to Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson (a Libra), who’ve all mastered the art of making cold weather look chic.

The perfect fall icon doesn’t follow trends, they make you want to copy them. And if I've saved their outfit to Pinterest, I consider that a peer-reviewed endorsement.

And just like that, another year around the sun. Here’s to Oct. 6, good outfits, great friends, a little romance, and having absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but looking good while I figure it out.

Happy Libra season to me, and to all of you.
